We were really excited when 13 Hoffman Estates High School students and their career advisor, Helen Henderson, walked over for a tour and career discussion with our doctors and technicians. We love talking to students! Many young people decide early on that they want to become a veterinarian and are focused in that direction all the way through school. There are many more that would like to go into the field but are not aware of all of the opportunities available, other than becoming a doctor. We like to give them some options......
There are two well known, full-time programs (two years in length) in the state where you can become a Certified Veterinary Technician. You finish the two year course at the school and then after passing their exams, you are qualified to sit for the state board examination to become licensed. There are also several accredited distance learning programs. This is where you can take classes on-line and with the assistance of a local veterinary hospital, you will get your "hands on" learning experience. After you pass their courses and exams, you will also be qualified to sit for the state board examination. Lots of information is available and we like to provide as much as we can to the students. Our staff loves to answer questions and give suggestions...!
